Happy 2nd Birthday Samara!

Samara turned two in November. We got her Sleeping Beauty on BluRay, the HD event if the year (according to Disney). Little did we know that it would turn an interest in princesses into a full scale obsession. Princesses morning, noon, and night. The songs, the dancing, the princess attitudes. The girls fight over who is pretending to be Princess Aurora (I tried to convince them one could be Aurora while the other is Briar Rose, but they weren't fooled! ) Samara informs me that I am Maleficient. I told her she was Maleficient because Maleficient does naughty things. She started sobbing, "NO, I not Alitafint!" Okay, that was very "Alitafint" of me. Here's a clip of the girls dancing, again.

With her birthday came her two year check-up. The vaccines were first, and she was not happy about those, then the doctor wanted to have her blood taken again to see how her iron deficiency is doing. Oh this will be fun! and lo! She sits perfectly still, doesn't cry, or flinch and watches them take two syringes full of blood! I was stunned. When the results came back, we discovered that she has a genetic blood disorder not iron deficiency. This is good news. First, it means I am not withholding iron from my children as I have been made to feel. Second, now that we know what it is, she won't have to have so much blood drawn and third the disease will not cause her any problems. The only concern will be if she marries someone else with the same genetics, even then it won't be dire for their children.
